CONSTANTINE TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – A 56-year-old Constantine man was taken into custody late Monday afternoon after he was accused of leading police from several agencies on a high speed pursuit in St. Joseph County.
St. Joseph County Sheriff Mark A. Lillywhite says deputies from his department were involved in the pursuit which started at about 5:00 p.m..
Deputies tried to stop a Chevy pickup truck on Stears Road near U.S. 131 as the driver had an outstanding felony warrant.
The driver took off at a high rate of speed and was pursued to the area of North River Road near Klett Road.
The suspect then drove into a wooded area and crashed into a tree.
The suspect then tried to make a run for it but was later found by a Three Rivers Police K-9.
Deputies were also assisted by the White Pigeon and Constantine Police Departments as well as the Michigan State Police.
The suspect was taken to the St. Joseph County Jail on the outstanding warrant and pending charges for the vehicle pursuit.
