COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – For the second straight game, the Coldwater Cardinals used a big sixth inning on Tuesday afternoon to rally past the Gull Lake Blue Devils 9-8 in the first game of a non-conference doubleheader at Pat Lowe Field.
Coldwater completed the sweep in the second game as they defeated the Blue Devils 10-3 to improve to 4-0.
Gull Lake used a seven-run fourth inning in the first contest to take a 7-1 lead before the Cardinals rallied.
They were down 7-2 entering the last of the sixth before they scored five runs to tie the game.
Cole Barker was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to cut the lead down to 7-3. Joe Closson and Aiden Marsden then followed with two-run singles.
The Blue Devils took the lead in the top of the seventh but Coldwater pushed across two in the last of the frame to win the contest. A passed ball brought in pinch runner Cole Smith with the tying run. The winning run scored on a bases loaded walk to Brady McFarland.
Clossen was the winning pitcher in relief for the second straight game.
Marsden pitched the first three innings in the second game to get the win. Nate Tappenden had four hits in the nightcap and drove in five runs to lead the Cardinals offense.
