BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – Two weeks after high temperatures got up to near 80 degrees, a strong cold front is expected to bring accumulating snow to Branch County and the surrounding area Tuesday and Tuesday night.
National Weather Service forecasters say a rain and snow mix will develop Tuesday and change to snow starting near Lake Michigan during the day Tuesday and become all snow Tuesday night.
Heavy snow is likely over much of northern Indiana and far southern Lower Michigan. Forecasters are now saying Branch County could get two to four inches of snow on Tuesday night as they have backed off from earlier predictions of a three to seven inch snowfall.
Drivers are expected to face snow covered and slippery roads Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.
To make matters worse, a hard freeze is also likely over at least part of the area Tuesday and Wednesday nights that may seriously damage fruit crops.
The snow will not stick around for long as temperatures are expected to get to near 50 on Thursday and 60 on Friday.
