STURGIS, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater won the Sturgis Girls Softball Invitational title on Saturday as they defeated Kalamazoo Christian 8-2 in the semifinals and Colon 19-1 in the tournament finals.
Coldwater scored three runs in the first inning of their game against Kalamazoo Christian and led throughout the contest. Jayla Foster went 3-for-4 with a triple and four RBI’s. Mia Rzepka was the winning pitcher as she allowed four hits and struck out five batters in going the distance.
The Cardinals scored four runs in the first inning against Colon and then used a 10 run fifth inning to put the mercy rule into effect. Alyssa Bach led the Cardinals offense with three hits. Alexis Bills was the winning pitcher as she struck out 10 in five innings of work.
The two wins improved Coldwater’s record to 3-3.
