COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Statistics from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services shows Branch County is lagging behind the State of Michigan in the percentage of residents who have gotten vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus and it has one of the worst percentage rates in the state.
The state says 9,980 Branch County residents have been vaccinated. That comes out to 28.78 percent of the county’s population. Only 15 other Michigan counties including Hillsdale County have a lower percentage.
Hillsdale County has the fifth worst percentage in the state as 25.55 percent of its 37,013 residents have been vaccinated.
Counties in the northern part of the lower peninsula top the list. Leelanau County has the highest percentage of vaccinated residents at 47.91 percent followed closely behind by Presque Isle County at 47.26 percent.
Over 2.5 million Michigan residents, or 31.5 percent of the state population have been vaccinated.
The Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency accepted walk-ins on Wednesday at its COVID-19 vaccination clinic at the Dearth Center in Coldwater. Previous appointments for COVID-19 vaccine clinics filled quickly when they were posted on line.
Appointments are still available for vaccines on Thursday at White Pigeon High School and on Friday at the Hillsdale ISD Parke Hayes Building. Appointments can be made at www.bhsj.org.
