EAST LANSING, MI (WTVB) – Branch County’s unemployment rate in March only went up a tenth of a percent to five percent according to data released on Thursday by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget.
Branch County had the 15th lowest unemployment rate among the 83 Michigan counties.
As for neighboring counties, St. Joseph County was at 4-point-9 percent, Hillsdale County was at five-point-four percent and Calhoun County was at six-point-four percent.
The state says not seasonally adjusted jobless rates edged down slightly in 10 of Michigan’s 17 major labor market areas during March
Bureau of Labor Market Information and Strategic Initiatives Associate Director Wayne Rourke says, “Michigan regional jobless rates displayed little change in March. Nonfarm job levels advanced modestly in nearly all Michigan metro areas over the month.”
Regional total employment levels rose over the month in 14 Michigan labor market areas.
Unemployment rates ranged from 3-point-3 percent in Livingston County to 16-point-two percent in Mackinaw County.
