UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – The Union City Chargers won four baseball games in a span of 24 hours on Friday and Saturday.
After sweeping Leslie on Friday, the Chargers took a pair from Vandercook Lake by scorees of 4-1 and 8-2 on Saturday. The second game featured a five inning no hitter by freshman pitcher Ryan Zweng as the game was called due to field conditions.
Kyle Johnson toed the rubber for Union City in game one striking out nine in five innings to earn the win. Zweng picked up the save.
Offensively, the Chargers were led by Johnson with two hits, including a home run that landed in the St. Joe River.
In game two, Cam Dibert had two hits including a double, Phoenix Elkins also had a double.
The Chargers are now 6-2 overall and 2-0 in the Big 8 Conference. They play at Reading on Tuesday.
