COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The cold, wet and miserable weather on Saturday morning cut short the activities surrounding the 11th annual Walk A Mile in Their Shoes fundraising event sponsored by the Branch County Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence which was held for the first time on South Monroe Street.
The annual event is held rain or shine and unfortunately for the organizers and the many volunteers who showed up as early as 6:00 a.m. to set up, there was more rain than shine on Saturday.
Despite the less than idea weather conditions, the message was still clear by those who showed up that domestic and sexual abuse and violence will not be tolerated in Branch County.
Coalition Director Kim Hemker said there were several reasons why “Rise Up” was chosen as the theme.
Many local men once again walked in women’s shoes to show their support. There was also a 5K run, a pancake breakfast and other activities.
J.T.’s Billiard Bar and Grill as well as the Broadway Grille donated a portion of their sales from Saturday to the cause.
