COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – For the third straight year, Alex Richards of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic School qualified for the National Association of Quiz Teams Individual Nationals.
As a 6th grader he went to Chicago in 2019 to compete in person with the top 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students from across the United States.
He qualified again last year to go to the nationals but the national tournament was cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
St. Charles competed in two virtual tournaments this year that were sponsored by the Minnesota Quiz Bowl Alliance, Richards finished sixth in individual scoring in the first tournament.
He went on to participate in the association’s Individual Nationals on Sunday where he competed in six rounds of play.
He heard 374 questions and scored 365 points. At the end of the day, Richards finished 45th out of 55 players.
During his quiz bowl career at St. Charles, Richards participated in 10 tournaments, 71 games played, and had a total of 3045 points scored.
