Sleepy driver leads to two vehicle crash on U.S. 12 near Fox Road

COLDWATER TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – Two drivers escaped serious injuries on Sunday afternoon when their vehicles collided on U.S. 12 west of Fox Road.

The Branch County Sheriff’s Department says the crash happened at about 3:00 p.m..

They say 60-year-old Garrett Heath of Hillsdale was heading west on U.S. 12 when he fell asleep, crossed the center line and struck a vehicle driven by 31-year-old Joshua Smotherman of Allen.

Heath received minor injuries and was transported to Promedica Coldwater Regional Hospital by Lifecare Ambulance.

Both driver’s were cited for driver’s license violation, Heath also cited for careless driving.

The Branch County Sheriff’s Office, were assisted by Lifecare Ambulance.
