UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – The Union City Chargers split their Big 8 Conference doubleheader with the Homer Trojans on Tuesday as the Chargers dropped the opening game 7-1 but came back to win the nightcap 2-1.
Ryan Zweng collected two of the six Charger hits in the first game. Union City starting pitcher Kyle Johnson struck out four in four plus innings of work.
Logan Bailey drove in two runs in the top of the second inning of the nightcap and the Chargers were able to make those runs stand up.
Winning pitcher Connor Elgan struck out three in going the first five innings. Zweng pitched the last two frames to earn the save.
Union City is now 8-6 overall and 4-2 in the Big 8 Conference.
