COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners brought forward a resolution during Thursday’s work session which approves an interlocal agreement on the lake level of Lake George.
Formal action is expected to be taken during Tuesday’s regular meeting.
The Branch County Circuit Court entered a lake level order on September 10, 2020 for the Michigan portion of Lake George that would match the level established on the Indiana side of the lake. A Michigan special assessment district for lake level improvements was also created by the order.
Branch County Drain Commissioner Mike Hard said they were at a point now where a interlocal agreement has to be established.
He said the agreement has to be approved by the Michigan Attorney General’s Office.
The legal lake level was the last step in the process involving the states of Michigan and Indiana in order to fund repairs to the Lake George dam that was built in 1927 on the Indiana side of the lake.
