COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners approved a resolution during Tuesday’s meeting which approves an interlocal agreement on the lake level of Lake George.
The Branch County Circuit Court entered a lake level order on September 10, 2020 for the Michigan portion of Lake George that would match the level established on the Indiana side of the lake. A Michigan special assessment district for lake level improvements was also created by the order.
The resolution recognizes the Branch County Drain Commissioner as the “delegated authority” and allows him to work
with the Indiana special assessment district to maintain Lake George’s lake level.
The legal lake level was the last step in the process involving the states of Michigan and Indiana in order to fund repairs to the Lake George dam that was built in 1927 on the Indiana side of the lake.
The agreement must be approved by the Michigan Attorney General before it can go into effect.
