CONCORD, MI (WTVB) – The Union City Chargers split their Big 8 Conference doubleheader at Concord on Tuesday as they lost the opener 5-3 but won the nightcap 5-2.
The Chargers were unable to hold a 3-1 lead in the first game. The Yellow Jackets scored a run in the last of the fourth and two more to take the lead for good.
Ryan Zweng drove in two runs for the Chargers. Union City pitcher Owen Jackson struck out three batters in five plus innings of work.
Union City snapped a 2-2 tie in the second game with a run in the fifth. They added two more in the sixth for insurance. Connor Elgan got the win in relief as he struck out five in three innings of work. Phoenix Elkins had two hits while Wyatt King drove in two runs.
The split left the Chargers with a record of 10-10.
