Leland Glea Sherburn, Jr., 81, of Mendon Township, passed away Monday, May 17, 2021 at Select Specialty Hospital in Battle Creek.
A private memorial gathering will be held at a later date.
Leland was born July 3, 1939 in Kalamazoo, Michigan to Leland and Dorothy (Deal) G. Sherburn. He grew up in Van Buren County, where he attended Decatur High School. He later served in the U.S. Navy. On September 17, 1960, he married Beverly Jean Wright in Roseland, IN. She survives.
Leland lived most of his adult his life in Fulton and was employed by Kalamazoo Conveyor and was plant supervisor at Checker Motors in Kalamazoo. In the late 1980s he moved to the Detroit area, where he was employed by the Bud Co., Atena Co. and CVS. He had resided in Mendon for the past four years.
Apart from work, Leland was a coon hunter and a member of the Blue Tick Breeders of America. He liked drag racing at Martin, Milan and Norfolk with his 1963 Ford Fairlane 500. He was fun-loving and always had a joke to share. He will be remembered as a loving, caring husband and father.
In addition to his wife of 60 years, Beverly, Leland is survived by his children, Leland (Darcy) Sherburn III of Nebraska and Amy (John) Powers of Union City; grandchildren, Bryan Sherburn, Emily Gantz, Jacob Powers, Joshua Powers and Jenny Powers; and siblings, Jim (Marilyn) Sherburn of Tennessee and Doug Sherburn of Gobles.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Steve Sherburn, who died in childhood.
