COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A major Michigan Department of Transportation road construction project in the City of Coldwater has been pushed back until after the Fourth of July.
The city announced on its social media platforms on Tuesday that the resurfacing of over two miles of U.S. 12 from Western Avenue to Michigan Avenue won’t start until at least July 5.
The work was originally scheduled to be finished by September 10. No completion date is listed on the city’s web site.
The $1.4 million investment includes sanitary sewer repairs, sidewalk ramp upgrades and pavement markings.
MDOT officials say there will be lane closures throughout the project with at least one lane open in each direction except for a one-week total closure of U.S. 12 between Western/Butters Avenue and the Four Corners downtown.
Traffic will be detoured onto Butters Avenue, Garfield Road and Division Street.
Meanwhile, City Manager Keith Baker said in his report for Monday’s City Council meeting that the North Monroe Street project is scheduled to be completed by the July 4 weekend. He says the new water and sewer mains have been installed and work has begun on the repair and replacement of sections of concrete curbs, gutter and sidewalks.
