COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – An electrical short is being blamed for an overnight fire which caused $75,000 worth of damage to a home at 67 Fairfield Drive in Coldwater.
Coldwater Fire Marshal Steve Trall says the fire at the one story single family home owned by Joe Ward was reported at 10:51 p.m. on Wednesday night.
He says the four occupants were notified of the fire by smoke alarms in the home and everybody including the family pets made it out safely.
Coldwater Firefighters got automatic mutual aid from the Quincy Fire Department.
There was heavy fire coming from the back of the home when firefighters arrived. The fire extended into the attic of the home and crews had to pull ceilings to extinguish it. The fire was under control after about a half hour and fire crews remained on scene until 2:22 a.m. Thursday morning.
Trall says there was extensive damage to the rear of the home and moderate damage in the kitchen and laundry room. He says the fire was caused by an electrical short inside a exterior wall of the home.
Also assisting at the scene were Coldwater Police, Lifecare Ambulance, Branch County Victims Assistance Team, Coldwater BPU and Michigan Gas.
No injuries were reported.
