COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – With COVID-19 restrictions being lifted on Tuesday throughout the entire state of Michigan, the latest statistics from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services show the number of Branch County’s new COVID-19 cases went up to 27 between June 12 and 18.
That’s an increase of three new cases compared to the previous week of June 5 through 11.
Based on a seven day average, Branch County’s positivity rate also increased to five-point-nine percent after 527 tests were administered between June 11 and 17.
Branch and St. Joseph Counties were among the top five counties in the state for per-capita cases between June 12 and 18.
The M.D.H.H.S. also reported less than 45,000 Michigan residents got their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine between June 11 and 17 which is a far cry from two months ago when over 327,o00 got their first dose.
While about 61 percent of Michiganders 16 and older have been vaccinated, 42 percent of Branch County residents have gotten their first dose.
Most of the vaccines in Branch County have been administered to older residents with 67 percent of those 65 and older being fully vaccinated. Of those between 40 and 64, a total of 42 percent have completed their vaccines. That figure drops to 22 percent for those between 20 and 39 and 12 percent for those 20 and younger.
