BATTLE CREEK, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – In yet another sign life is returning to normal, the Calhoun County Justice Center will reopen to the public starting on Monday.
Chief Judge Michael Jaconette told the Battle Creek Enquirer on Friday “the doors will be open on Monday and we are ready to go.”
He signed an order on March 16, 2020 which shut the building down.
In an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19, Calhoun County and Court offices and facilities, including the Justice Center, were closed to the public at that time.
At first, it was announced the closure to the public would be in effect until at least Monday, April 13th, 2020 because of the rapidly evolving public health emergency.
County government operations continued but only with employees critical to providing essential services and functions.
Jaconette told the Enquirer talks were held with Calhoun County Health Officer Eric Pessell, court administrators and the State Court Administrators Office before the decision was made to open the building.
Visitors to the Justice Center who have not been vaccinated against COVID-19 are being encouraged but not ordered to wear a mask and practice social distancing.
