DETROIT, MI (WKZO ) – Davis Thompson is in the lead after the first day of the PGA Tour Rocket Mortgage Classic at the Detroit Golf Club.
Thompson finished his first round at nine under.
Defending champion Bryson DeChambeau got off to a rocky start after he and his longtime caddie Tim Tucker parted ways. DeChambeau finished at even par and could be in danger of missing the cut.
DeChambeau told ESPN that he and Tucker were not quitting outright, but that the two were taking time apart. Ben Schomin will caddie for the remainder of the tournament. The two have had issues before, with Tucker quitting in 2017 before they reunited in 2018.
DeChambeau had the lead in the final round of the U.S. Open before he slumped his way to a 44 on the back nine.
