COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A renewal of an agreement that was made last year between the City of Coldwater and Coldwater Community Schools is on the agenda for both the Coldwater City Council and the Coldwater School Board of Education for Monday night.
The School Resource Officer was reintroduced last year and Coldwater Public Safety Director Joe Scheid said in his letter to the City Council, “While last year was definitely not a normal year due to COVID, we, along with the Coldwater Community Schools, felt the project yielded many positive outcomes.”
Scheid went on to say their intent is to maintain the same goals and methodology for the program that were originally established.
Coldwater police officer Robin Swartz has served as the School Resource Officer.
To fund the program, Coldwater Community Schools pays the city to cover 75 percent of the costs.
The agreement reached last year can be automatically renewed every year.
As the School Resource Officer, Swartz is on duty during the regularly scheduled school day. She may also be assigned to home high school football and basketball games as well as to other events.
