DENVER, CO (WKZO AM/FM) – The Detroit Tigers selected pitcher Jackson Jobe with the third overall pick in the Major League Baseball Draft Sunday.
Jobe is a high schooler from Heritage Hall High School in Oklahoma. He was the 2021 Gatorade Oklahoma High School Player of the Year. Detroit also picked Texas pitcher Ty Madden in the Competitive Balance round of the MLB Draft.
The Pittsburgh Pirates selected Louisville catcher Henry Davis with the first pick in the MLB Draft. Davis is the first catcher taken number one overall since Baltimore took Adley Rutschman out of Oregon State in 2019. The Texas Rangers took Vanderbilt pitcher Jack Leiter with the second pick, followed by the Tigers taking Jackson Jobe at number three.
The Boston Red Sox grabbed high school shortstop Marcelo Mayer with the fourth selection and the Baltimore Orioles rounded out the top five by taking Sam Houston State outfielder Colton Cowser.
