COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater Board of Public Utilities customers will see their electric rates go up for the first time in over two years beginning with their September bills. The Coldwater City Council unanimously approved the new rates during their regular meeting Monday night.
For residential customers, the new rates reflect a 2.7% increase over the previous rates, or between $2 and $3 more per bill. The Readiness to Serve Charge increased by $2 to $12.75, while the energy rate increased from 9.63¢/kWh to 10.336¢/kWh. Commercial industrial customers would see their rates go up 1.7%.
An overall electric rate increase of 2% over the next three years was discussed at last week’s CBPU Board meeting. which prompted First Ward Councilman Travis Machan to ask:
