COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Zoning Board of Appeals tabled a request from the owners of an adult use recreational marijuana establishment at 894 East Chicago on Wednesday evening who were seeking an 85 foot sign height variance from the city’s zoning code.
The owners of Birds of a Feather, LLC were looking to install freestanding signage at a height of 100 feet at the northwest corner of the commercial building. The Coldwater Zoning Code limits freestanding sign height to 15 feet.
The Tree House Provisioning Center property has no street frontage on any road and is accessed by an ingress/egress easement at the nearby Phoenix Building.
The petitioners stated their location is not only completely land locked, but it is entirely surrounded by trees that are as tall as 85 feet and they have no ability to advertise at the head of the driveway located off of U.S. 12 where their easement begins. Therefore, they believe that the proposed signage is their only option.
City Planner Dean Walrack said the Planning Commission had earlier granted a special land use permission for the business but the conditions did not include a review of signage. He said the Planning Commission would like to review the request and that led the Z.B.A. after a lengthy discussion to eventually table the matter.
