COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners agreed on Tuesday to be the fiduciary for a recycling center project so that a state grant can be applied for by the owner of a local recycling business without the commitment of county funds at this time.
Samantha Buterbaugh of Biz Aid Recycling presented her proposal for a new facility to the Commissioners during last week’s work session.
She said there is grant money available through the Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy to build the facility.
If the grant is awarded, 80 percent of the construction cost would be reimbursed.
But Commissioners are hesitant at this time to invest $60,000 for the project. They agreed instead to be the fiduciary so that Buterbaugh could apply for the grant.
There will be further discussions if the grant is approved.
