Carol Ruth Meehan, 81, a long-time resident of Coldwater, MI, currently residing in Quincy, MI and Bluffton, SC passed away suddenly on Sunday, July 25, 2021 at Parkview Medical Center in Ft. Wayne, IN. She was surrounded by her husband and children.
In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place and the family will have a private celebration of life at a later date. The family was cared for by Dutcher Funeral Home.
Carol was born in February 1940 to George and Ruth (Strong) Van Duren in Holland, MI. She graduated from Holland High School in 1958 and became a licensed cosmetologist soon after.
Carol was a gifted artist and a woman of many talents who created beautiful pieces of art and played a shrewd game of poker. She worked in many mediums, with a focus on woodworking, ceramics, stained glass and china painting, She also was a skillful business owner and
throughout her life she owned and operated a variety of small businesses including a ceramic studio, a food truck concession stand, and a woodworking shop where she produced children’stoys for Holbrook Patterson, previously located in Coldwater, and small windmill souvenirs for the Wooden Shoe Factory in Holland, MI.
On July 3, 2010 she married Robert “Bob” Meehan, at St. Rose Catholic Church in Perrysburg, OH.
Though Carol loved to do many things, her greatest love and joy was being around her family. She was charming and caring and endeared herself to those who were lucky enough to know and care about her. Even though Carol was taken too soon, she lived an extraordinary life surrounded by people she loved.
Carol is survived by her husband Bob Meehan, her children Diane (Steve) Hourtienne, Suzanne Fielding, and Kenneth (Julie Schorfhaar) Klein all of Coldwater; her grandchildren Richard Hardenberg, Jason Hourtienne, Logan Fielding, Jacob Stryker Fielding, Alexis (Jordan) Harmon, Morgan (Logan) Targgart, and Colin Klein; her great grandchildren Brooklyn & Beux Harmon;her nieces Shilo Johnson and Ardith (Robert) Meaney; her nephew Dean (Anne) Peffers; manygreat nieces & nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister Arleen Peffers; and her great niece Emma Ruth Meaney.
Memorials may be directed to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or a charity of donor choice.
