COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater Economic Development Coordinator Audrey Tappenden told the Downtown Development Authority Board on Wednesday they hope to kick off the newly established Social District on August 14 during the Rotary’s 100th anniversary celebration.
She says cup orders have been made for three businesses.
There has been a little grumbling about fees that have to be paid to be part of the district.
A state law which went into effect on July 1, 2020, allows local governmental units to designate a Social District and Commons Areas within its jurisdiction. The social district in Coldwater will stretch along U.S. 12 between Jackson and Hudson Streets and between Harrison and Pearl Street.
Businesses who qualify may sell alcoholic drinks on their licensed premises to customers who may then consume the drink within the Commons Area of the Social District. But you can not take a drink you bought in one bar and take it to another.
The Social District hours of operation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Friday through Sunday.
