COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A change in state law has forced the City of Coldwater to back off on their plans to buy parcels at 97 Abbott Avenue and at 27 Green Street for a total of just over $9,500.
The Coldwater City Council passed a resolution on June 28 which gave the city permission to buy the parcels which the State of Michigan foreclosed on due to accumulated unpaid property taxes over the past three years.
But City Manager Keith Baker they later found out about the state law change.
So for at least this year, the purchase was not going forward.
The two properties are expected go to auction in August. A third party contractor handles auctions for the state.
