James “Jimmy” Franklin McComb, 73 of Coldwater passed away Monday, August 2, 2021 at Bronson Methodist Hospital after a short illness.
Visitation will be Sunday, August 8, 2021 at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater from 2:00 – 4:00 pm. A funeral service will take place at 11:00 am on Monday, August 9, 2021 at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater with Pastor Mark Case of California Community Church officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery with Military Honors by the Coldwater American Legion Post #52.
James was born November 16, 1947 to James and Laura (Gilbert) in Coldwater. He joined the U.S. Navy at the age of 17, serving during Viet Nam. Upon returning from the U.S. Navy with an honorable discharge he completed his high school. Jimmy was a hardworking and determined man. His first job was at the family business, the Shaw Shoe Store. Jim then worked as a car hauler for Commercial Carriers before taking a position at the Coldwater State Home. He later became a corrections officer at Lakeland Prison retiring in 2001 after 15 years. James married Patricia Weaver, they had two children together. He later met Kathy Armstrong and they became close friends.
Jimmy was a member of the Coldwater American Legion for many years. He enjoyed going to the Commercial Bar to socialize with friends. James enjoyed spending time fishing, doing yardwork, and tinkering around his house. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, being friendly with everyone, and being able to talk your ears off or give you the silent treatment. He will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him.
James is survived by his daughter Missy Erts; his son Andy McComb of Coldwater; his siblings Mark (Kathy) McComb of Ft. Wayne, Debra (Don) Doudt of Coldwater; and Diana Gifford of Summerville, SC; his grandchildren Jonathon (Christi Smith) Erts, Jacob, Christopher, and Katie Erts; his great grandchildren Nikolai Erts, and Katie Smith; and his cat “Dot”. He was preceded in death by his parents, nephew James Gaglio and his long-time companion Kathy Armstrong.
