Yance Price Sexton, 15, of Leonidas, went to be with his Savior on Sunday, August 1, 2021 at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids.
A celebration of Yance’s life will be held on Sunday, August 8, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Factoryville Bible Church in Athens with Pastor Fred Goebert officiating. A memorial gathering will be held from 6-8:00 PM on Saturday, August 7, 2021 at the Factoryville Bible Church fellowship hall. The family is being served by Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation in Union City.
Yance was born June 16, 2006 in Kalamazoo, Michigan to Mark and Elizabeth (Wright) Sexton. He was a ninth grade student at Factoryville Christian School, where he had attended his entire academic career. He had a tender heart, deep faith and a love for the Lord. Along with his family, Yance was very active in church activities, including Camp Elvin and youth group. He enjoyed helping others, from working with younger students to helping older members of the church.
Sports, especially soccer, basketball and running, were some of Yance’s favorite pastimes. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and finding frogs. He was very much at home in nature. He also liked dancing and had a great sense of rhythm, as evidenced by his teaching himself to moonwalk, spontaneously breaking into dance and playing the drums and his beat box. He loved music and was self-taught on several instruments. He liked learning song lyrics and drawing. He could accurately depict the things he saw around him.
Yance had a unique personality and his own way of talking, dressing and seeing the world. He enjoyed doing things with his family, whether it was devotions, swimming, game night, movie night (complete with quoting movie dialogue), or “Cousin Camp” at his grandparents’ home in Ohio. He was happy and fun; soft-spoken and reflective; a kindness-practicing one-of-a kind guy who will be incredibly missed by those whose lives he blessed.
Survivors include Yance’s parents, Mark and Elizabeth Sexton of Leonidas; his siblings, Brooke, Porter, Anna, April and Silas; paternal grandparents, Ron and Linda Sexton of Burlington; maternal grandparents, Kerris and Nancy Wright of Bluffton, OH; and numerous loving aunts, uncles and cousins.
Memorial donations are suggested to Factoryville Christian School or Factoryville Bible Church, 33650 Factoryville Road, Athens, MI 49011.
