Dean Richard Johnson, 93, of Coldwater, died August 4, 2021 at Grand Vista in Coldwater under the care of hospice.
He will be memorialized privately by his family at Torch Lake, Alden, Michigan.
Dean was born August 22, 1927 in Flint, Michigan to Amos Samuel and Opal June (Hyde) Johnson. He grew up in Genesee County and graduated from Flint Northern High School in 1945. On April 10, 1954, he married the former Marjory O’Brien in Angola, IN. She preceded him in death in 2008. Dean was self-employed for 40 years with A.S. Johnson & Sons in Flint, the family business, and went on to work at the Buick plant in Flint, retiring in the 1990s. He was always up for a good laugh, playing cards, visiting national parks, and taking long car rides with an ice cream stop somewhere along the way. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Montrose. In his later years he moved to Coldwater, where he had resided since 2013.

Dean is survived by his children, Karen (Fred Hofstetter) Johnson of Pacifica, CA; Paula (Steve Parks) Johnson of Marshall and Natalie (Dana Pink) Johnson of Muskegon; and sisters-in-law, Katherine Rabon of Houston, TX and Patsy (Wyler) Rigling of Brookshire,TX, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Memorial donations are suggested to: Humane Society of Muskegon County, 2640 Marquette Ave., Muskegon, MI 49442 in honor of grand-dog Pinto, who provided lots of love; or to the Grass River Nature Preserve, 6500 Alden Hwy, Bellaire, MI 49615.
