COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – There could be some weather issues for the start of the Branch County Fair which officially gets underway on Sunday.
The National Weather Service says some of the muggiest weather of the summer is expected to move into the region this weekend.
Forecasters say humidity levels will be on the increase Friday through the early parts of next week.
Chances of showers and thunderstorms will increase Friday afternoon mainly from northwest Indiana into south central Lower Michigan.
Whatever rain we get will be welcomed as very little rain has been recorded over the last couple of weeks. Out of the last 11 days, the M.S.U. Extension Service weather station at the Bloom Dairy Farm has only recorded seven-hundredths of an inch on July 29.
Chances of showers and thunderstorms will continue Friday night. Friday afternoon and Friday night storms may contain some locally heavy rainfall and some localized gusty winds in excess of 40 mph.
More showers and storms are possible Saturday with the greatest chances forecast for Monday.
Heat and humidity will build this weekend as afternoon heat indices are expected to reach into the mid to upper 90s by Sunday and Monday, and potentially in excess of 100 degrees on Tuesday.
