COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Little Red Schoolhouse is not open during this years Branch County Fair due to vandalism.
The Branch County Historical Society made the announcement about the historic 1846 schoolhouse on its Facebook page.
This was the second time in the past four years the historic old building has been broken into and damaged.
This time, the vandals smashed out the bottom half of the building’s rustic old door to gain access.
Artifacts and supplies in the building were gone through and scattered about.
The vandals then smashed out all of the windows in the door as they left.
The door has been removed from the building and a local woodworker is trying to put the pieces back together again.
A cover has been bolted over the doorway in order to secure the building. The door will be put back in place once it is rebuilt.
The Branch County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the incident.
