COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – North Hanchett between U.S. 12 and Harrison will soon be going back to a two way street.
Acting upon a recommendation from the Coldwater Downtown Development Authority Board, the Coldwater City Council voted 6-1 on Monday night to change that portion of North Hanchett from one way back to two way.
Council member Travis Machan cast the only no vote.
It was decided over two years ago to have traffic be one way on that portion of North Hanchett to help alleviate the loss of parking during the construction of the Lofts at Milnes Plaza development.
City Manager Keith Baker said it was intended to be temporarily.
Coldwater Economic Development Coordinator Audrey Tappenden said during a recent D.D.A. meeting that feedback from downtown businesses indicated a majority wanted North Hanchett go back to being a two way street.
Mayor Tom Kramer once again indicated during Monday’s City Council meeting there would be additional parking spots on Harrison if North Hanchett was returned to a two way street.
A dozen parallel parking stalls were placed on Hanchett near the Lamplighter Lounge since the street became one way.
There is plenty of parking out at WalMart too but that has nothing to do with downtown businesses
