QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – The last of the power outages in the Marble Lake area were taken care of on Sunday evening by Consumer’s Energy crews.
It was a dark weekend for many in the Quincy area after a devastating storm that hit without warning knocked down numerous trees and power lines at around 6:00 p.m. Friday night.
Nearly 4,700 Consumer’s Energy customers lost their power at the height of the outages.
As of noon Sunday, about 1,800 customers were still without power. The outages on Sunday were mainly along U.S. 12 between Coldwater and Quincy. They extended as far north as Jonesville Road and as far south as East Central Road.
The Quincy Fire Department reports the village took a significant hit from the very powerful storm. Among the power lines that were knocked down in the area was the main power transmission line in the Quincy Park Campground. This line services much of the Quincy area.
Residents affected by the storm spent the weekend trying to clear the storm damage in the sweltering August heat and humidity.
Extensive damage was reported at two campgrounds and at the Quincy Golf Course.
The golf course has been forced to close until further notice due to a large amount of trees that were knocked down.
