BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – The Bronson City Council approved a second pay request from Concord Excavating and Grading of Concord on Monday for the Ruggles and Compton Street construction project.
The amount requested was over $209,000.
The work includes the replacement of an aging water main along with work on sanitary and storm sewers on South Ruggles Street and a portion of Compton Street between Mowry and South Ruggles.
City Manager Brandon Mersman says the storm sewer on South Ruggles is now finished and that two crews are working on water and sewer service lines.
In addition, the storm and sanitary upgrades are both completed on South Ruggles. Storm and sanitary sewer work is scheduled to finished over the next couple of weeks on Compton Street.
Mersman says all of the work to date has been completed in general conformance with the plans and specifications.
Engineer Mike Schwartz from Prein and Newhof says the most part, the project is moving along.
He added they will talk with Bronson school officials before the start of classes on August 23.
The City of Bronson was awarded a $1.3 million grant from the Michigan Strategic Fund just about a year ago to assist with the project.
The grant required a local match of just under $441,000.
Bronson was one of several Michigan communities receiving support from the state to upgrade existing public water, sewer and wastewater infrastructure systems.
