COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A lightning strike from Wednesday afternoon’s severe storm led to a fire which caused about $5,000 worth of damage to a home in the 100 block of Liberty Street.
Coldwater Fire Marshal Steve Trall says the fire at the Victor Garcia residence at 145 Liberty Street was reported at 2:05 p.m..
Coldwater firefighters responded with automatic mutual aid from the Quincy Fire Department.
The first crew on the scene found a fire on the exterior of the home near the peak of the roof.
The fire was put out within minutes. Trall says it was caused by a lightning strike to the home and a tree near the front of the home.
The exterior and the attic were damaged. Everyone in the home was able to escape with no injuries.
Lifecare Ambulance and Coldwater Police Department also assisted on scene. Fire crews were on scene for about 45 minutes.
