JACKSON, MI (WTVB) – Crews from as far away as Kentucky and other states will be in Michigan on Thursday, helping Consumers Energy crews restore electric service to customers following storms on Tuesday night and Wednesday afternoon that pummeled much of the state with 70 mph winds, lightning and rain.
A total of 277,000 have been affected. That total includes approximately 60,000 additional outages from new storms that are moved through Michigan Wednesday afternoon.
Mutual assistance crews from Kentucky, Indiana and Ohio will join more than 300 Consumers Energy and contract crews.
Nearly 2,500 downed wires have been reported following Tuesday night’s storms due to high winds that brought down hundreds of trees on power lines.
Those clearing storm debris are advised to be aware of possible downed wires and report them to 9-1-1 or Consumers Energy at 800-477-5050 immediately while staying at least 25 feet away.
As of 5:30 a.m. Thursday morning, nearly 216,000 Consumer’s Energy customers system wide were without power. That number includes over 2,600 customers in Branch County, over 8,100 in Calhoun County, 1,600 in Hillsdale County and over 4,400 customers in St. Joseph County.
It could take until Saturday or Sunday for everyone to get their power back after this week’s storms.
