Kenneth “Ken” Lee Klavinski, 66, of Coldwater passed away Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at his home in Coldwater.
A Memorial Mass will take place on Thursday, August 26, 2021 at 11:00 AM at St. Charles Borromeo Church in Coldwater with Rev. Fr. Paul Redmond officiating. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 25, 2021 from 4-8:00 PM at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater with the Rosary to begin at 7:00 PM, followed by the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree Ceremony. For those who cannot attend Ken’s service in person, the Funeral Mass will be webcast on Ken’s Dutcher Funeral Home page beginning at 10:45 am.
Kenneth was born August 7, 1955 to Stanley and Norma (Losinski) Klavinski in Sturgis. He was a very intelligent man, earning his Master’s in Music from Western Michigan University. Ken was very involved with music his entire life and played the guitar, trumpet, piano, organ, banjo, and the drums. He was a former music teacher as well as playing in a polka band called the “Polkateers”.
Ken was a long time choir member of St. Thomas More Catholic Parish Church in Kalamazoo, where he also DJ for the student ministry dances and always closed with “See you in church on Sunday”.
He was involved with the Joshua Music Ministry in upstate New York, which provided the music liturgy for retreats that were led by Father Joe Grizone and Sister Dorothy Ederer. He referred to this group as his Joshua family and cherished the time he spent with them.
Ken was a long-time member of St. Charles and the Knights of Columbus, earning his 4th Degree. He also volunteered in many capacities over the years. He enjoyed spending time with the St. Charles Card Group both playing cards and taking trips. Ken’s true joy in life was spending time with his family and friends. He will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him.
Kenneth is survived by his mother, Norma Klavinski of Coldwater; his son Joshua Klavinski of Battle Creek; his daughter Lisa Akins of Kalamazoo, his siblings Deb (Ken) Calloway of Bronson, Ginger (Bill) McMillan of Coldwater, and Terry (Rita) Klavinski of Coldwater; his three grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, great nieces & great nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Stanley Klavinski and his infant son, Noah Lee Klavinski.
