COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Planning Commission approved two Special Land Use Permit requests for proposed adult use recreational marijuana businesses on Monday night.
One was from Highwire Farms of Adrian to operate a 3,000 square foot facility at 363 North Willowbrook Road.
City Planner Dean Walrack said the paved land is currently vacant.
The second request approved came from Exclusive Brands, LLC to operate at 599 East Chicago which is the current site of Wings, Etc.
Architect Cody Newman from Driven Design of Battle Creek said plans call for most of the current restaurant to be converted into the marijuana business.
It’s not clear at this point if Wings Etc will move to another location in Coldwater.
On another matter, the planning commission made a unanimous recommendation to the Zoning Board of Appeals to turn down a 85 foot sign height variance request from the Tree House Provisioning Center at 894 East Chicago. The owners of Birds of a Feather, LLC were looking to install freestanding signage at a height of 100 feet at the northwest corner of the commercial building.
The Coldwater Zoning Code limits freestanding sign height to 15 feet. The Tree House Provisioning Center property has no street frontage on any road and is accessed by an ingress/egress easement at the nearby Phoenix Building.
The petitioners stated their location is not only completely land locked, but it is entirely surrounded by trees that are as tall as 85 feet and they have no ability to advertise at the head of the driveway located off of U.S. 12 where their easement begins. Therefore, they believe that the proposed signage was their only option.
