ANGOLA, IN (WTVB) – A man charged with shooting at police at a motel just south of Branch County in June of 2018 was convicted on Thursday in Steuben County Superior Court.
WANE-TV reports 38-year-old Joshua A. Kelley was found guilty on eight charges including two counts of Attempted Murder of police officers.
He was also convicted on charges of two counts of possession of methamphetamine while in possession of a handgun, manufacturing methamphetamine
pointing a loaded firearm at a police officer, theft of firearm and possession of a handgun without a license.
Kelley was arrested following a seven hour standoff with police at the Travelers Inn west of Fremont, Indiana.
The first outburst of gunfire took place as Fremont Police were conducting a welfare check on him. The second took place about six hours later when negotiations broke down.
Kelley, who has a criminal record going back to 2000, surrendered after police fired tear gas into his room at the motel.
WANE-TV also reports the jury also found Kelley guilty of several sentencing enhancements.
He is scheduled to be sentenced on October 7.
