COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater City Manager Keith Baker says in his report for Monday’s City Council meeting that the City’s total population according to the 2020 Census is 13,822 which is about a 13 percent increase from the 2019 U.S. Census Bureau estimate.
Baker says it is a 26 percent increase from the 2010 Census which did not include the inmate population of the Lakeland Correctional Facility.
Branch County had a slight decrease in population to 44,862.
The Branch County Apportionment Commission held an organizational meeting on Friday as they began the process of possibly redrawing County Commissioner districts.
The meeting was originally scheduled to be held on August 12 but the meeting date had to be changed due to the power outage.
Baker says the city’s gain in population will have a positive effect on state and federal revenue sharing over the course of the next decade.
