BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – Students head back to the classroom in the Coldwater, Quincy and Bronson districts on Monday for the start of the 2021-2022 school year. Union City students go back to school on Tuesday.
All Branch County students will attend school in person full-time five days per week at the start of the school year.
COVID-19 cases remain at high levels in Branch County so districts will be using mitigation strategies to prevent its spread. The Centers for Disease Control is recommending students who are not vaccinated for COVID-19 wear a mask. But Branch County districts are not requiring them.
Current federal regulations require that all riders of public transportation including school buses wear a mask.
Virtual learning is being presented as an option but Union City Superintendent Chris Katz says in a back to school plan posted on the district’s web site, “we have reached out to parents of students who were successful during virtual learning and an extremely small number continue to be interested in a virtual option. We would encourage everyone to return to in person learning. However, we will try to assist any parents in our district who would like help finding the best environment for their child.”
