PORTAGE, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater varsity boys soccer team tied one and lost one Saturday at the annual Justin Bailey Memorial Shootout in Portage. It was an extremely hot afternoon for competition, with the temperature on the turf field in the mid 90’s.
The Cardinals fell to Mattawan in their opening game 4-0, giving up two penalty kicks, a goal on a direct kick, and an own goal in the loss. Coldwater also missed a penalty kick of their own.
Bauston Feldbauer made four saves in goal, while Joseph Closson made one.
In the second game, Coldwater scored an Amine Mohammed penalty kick with 16 seconds left to tie Kalamazoo Loy Norrix 2-2. Mohammed scored the Cardinals other goal in the second half, after Loy Norrix had taken a 2-0 halftime lead. That goal was assisted by Mukhtar Abdulla.
Joseph Closson made three saves in goal.
The Cardinals are now 0-2-1 on the season and play at Tecumseh Tuesday.
The Coldwater JV team improved to 2-0-1 while tying Mattawan 1-1 and beating Loy Norrix 4-2 Saturday. Ghaith Musa had the goal in the first game, and two more in the second. His twin brother Laith Musa also had two goals against Loy Norrix.
