EAST LANSING, MI (WTVB) – Branch County was one of 77 counties in Michigan that saw a drop in it’s unemployment rate during the month of July. Data released on Thursday by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget showed the Branch County unemployment rate was four-point-eight percent after being at five-point-one percent in June.
Jobless rates in neighboring counties went down. St. Joseph County went to 5-point-1 percent, Hillsdale County dropped to 5-point-5 percent while Calhoun County was at 6-point-6 percent.
The state says not seasonally adjusted unemployment rates fell in 15 of Michigan’s 17 major labor market areas in July. “Michigan’s regional labor markets continued to remain steady over the month,” said Wayne Rourke, associate director of the Bureau of Labor Market Information and Strategic Initiatives. “July was characterized by minimal changes in private payroll job levels, seasonal job reductions in local schools, and modest declines in unemployment rates in most major Michigan regions.”
Unemployment rates ranged from two-point-seven percent in Livingston County to eight-point-nine percent in Montmorency County.
