COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Southern Michigan Bank & Trust Chairman and CEO John H. Castle has announced an additional $5,000 donation to the Coldwater Township Sunrise Rotary Promise Program, adding to its initial contribution of $25,000 in 2020.
The Sunrise Rotary and the Coldwater Township Sunrise Rotary Foundation board launched the Promise Program in 2019 with an initial funding commitment of $15,000 for three years from the club and $5,000 for five years from the foundation.
The Promise Endowment Fund has now reached $275,000, over 50 percent of the initial 7-year goal.
Partnering with Kellogg Community College and the KCC Foundation, Promise scholarships have been designated to support students entering programs in Allied Health and Skilled Trades.
Local industry leaders, as well as educational institutions have been working with the Promise Team to strengthen student awareness, affordability and access to the training needed to meet the demands for a highly skilled workforce in Branch County.
Castle stated, “It’s been a privilege to be part of this innovative and important effort by the Sunrise Rotary Club and KCC. I can think of no better way to promote community growth than to encourage our young people to develop the skills necessary to become the future workers and leaders we need right here in Branch County.”
