BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Cardinals picked up their first win of the season by running past Pennfield 38-26.
It was a breakout night for sophomore running back Tyson Roby, who finished with a game-high 182 yards on 22 carries and two touchdowns from 17 and 52 yards out. Garrett Thorne had 5 carries for 80 yards and a score. Cam Torres had 9 carries for 22 yards, but he also had an 80-yard kickoff return touchdown and finished with 120 all-purpose yards.
Aiden Marsden was 2-for-4 passing for 59 yards, a rouchdown, and an interception. Hunter Munson had a 25-yard TD reception. Brayden Boyd added a 25-yard field goal. Defensively, Coldwater held the Pennfield offense to just 100 rushing yards; Cole Barker led the way with 10 tackles, with Munson adding 8.
With the win, the Cardinals improved to 1-2 overall, 1-1 in the Interstate 8. They will host Jackson Northwest next Friday on Purple Night.
