COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – With Julie Waterbury stepping down as Branch County Treasurer on September 24, applications are now being accepted to succeed her.
Pursuant to state law, the Branch County Clerk, the Prosecuting Attorney and the Probate Court Judge are required to appoint a suitable person to replace Waterbury.
Waterbury is leaving office after accepting a Chief Financial Officer position with the Grand Ledge School District.
Whoever is appointed will hold office until a successor is elected. The Treasurer position will be on the August 2022 Primary ballot as well as the General Election ballot in November of 2022 for a two year term which expires on December 31, 2024.
The committee is looking for applicants who is a Qualified Elector in Branch County, has experience in tax collection, investments and accounting, the ability to serve on various statutorily created commissions and committees, has an understanding of county government governance and procedure and who has experience as a treasurer for a public body/organization.
The Treasurer is required by statute to obtain a bond. Any applicant must be eligible to be bonded.

Resumes will be collected until 12 pm on October 1, 2021.
A public meeting will then be scheduled to evaluate the applicants and determine the appropriate appointee.
