COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Seven townships along with the cities of Coldwater and Bronson and the Village of Quincy are taking part in this Saturday’s Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day at the Branch County Fairgrounds. Residents from participating cities and townships can dispose of approved hazardous waste for free between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. All residents have to do is bring some form of verification that proves their address and ensure that the items they bring are on the approved items list. Participating townships are Algansee, Bethel, Bronson, Coldwater, Kinderhook, Ovid and Quincy.
Approved items include: Medical Sharps, Pool Chemicals, Oxidizers, Fire Extinguishers, Smoke Detectors, Pesticides/Herbicides, Kerosene, Floor Care Products, Alkaline Batteries, Antifreeze, Mercury, Oil Based Paints, Aerosols, Corrosives – Acids, Corrosives – Base, Oil, and Gasoline. The following items are NOT approved: Ammunition or Explosives, Radioactive Material, Shock-Sensitive Material, Household Trash or Yard Waste, Controlled Substances, Construction Materials or Debris, Miscellaneous Car Parts, Appliances, Unknown/Unidentified Materials, Pails Larger than 5 Gallons, Tires, Latex Paint Products, Lab Chemicals, Gases and Non-standard Gases, and Air Conditioning Units. Residents should enter the fairgrounds off of Sprague Street and be prepared to hand materials over to designated workers when they reach the collection point. Questions?
