UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – Union City’s 26-20 overtime win over Reading last Friday night came at the end of a week that featured a coaching change in the football program.
Union City High School Athletic Director Hayley Denney says second year head coach Clint Colborn has been “suspended indefinitely”.
She did not go into the exact reasons behind the suspension and referred questions to Union City Schools Superintendent Chris Katz.
Katz said he also could not go into specifics because it was a personnel matter.
Randy Widener who had been the junior varsity coach took over the varsity program early last week. He brought in Doug Counterman, Jason Counterman and Fred Bradford to serve as assistants and held a meeting with the parents of the players last Wednesday.
Widener will coach the varsity Chargers for the foreseeable future. The Chargers will try for their second straight win under Widener this Friday when they play at Homer.
The Chargers were 2-5 under Colborn during his first season in 2020 and were 1-2 this season before the coaching change took place.
